GWM DPF Specialists

What your GWM’s DPF actually does - and why it blocks

Your Cannon or Tank 300’s diesel particulate filter traps soot to reduce emissions. It must regenerate—either passively on longer drives or actively under ECU control—to burn soot away.

Short trips, stop-start use and incorrect oil can prevent complete regens and load the filter faster, triggering warnings or limp mode. We begin with a scan and measurements (soot loading %, differential pressure in kPa, exhaust temperatures), then explain the root cause and options: a parked/forced regen, an on-car clean, or off-car cleaning/replacement if required.

The aim isn’t just to clear a code—it’s to address why it clogged so it stays clear.

Common Symptoms

Signs your DPF needs attention

DPF light on, frequent active regens, reduced power, high fuel use, hot fan/idle during regens, or a “drive to clean” message that never completes. Left alone, it can escalate to limp mode and potential component damage.

Cannon/Tank 300

Short-trip use = incomplete regens; we validate soot %, temps and oil spec.

After a service

Wrong oil or missed updates can hinder regens—we check both.

Our Process

Diagnose → Clean/Regenerate → Verify

We capture codes, soot %, differential pressure & EGTs, then road-test to reproduce symptoms. If viable, we perform a parked/forced regeneration to safely burn soot, or an on-car chemical clean where appropriate. If the filter is ash-loaded/damaged, we’ll price off-car cleaning or replacement and explain pros/cons. Finally, we verify with a second data capture and road test, then record results on your invoice. For 2025-on diesels, GWM’s longer 15,000 km intervals can help prevent nuisance visits; either way, we’ll set a plan that suits your driving

Compliance First

ADR-compliant repairs only. We do not perform DPF deletes.

Warranty, Rights & Updates

Independent repairs—done properly

You’re free to use an independent workshop when we follow manufacturer procedures and use the correct fluids/parts.

If your vehicle needs recall or campaign work, we’ll point you to a GWM dealer. For out-of-warranty DPF faults, we document readings, part numbers and oil specs to protect resale.

GWM owners also benefit from 5-year roadside assistance if applicable.

We’ll help you balance genuine vs equivalent-quality options and make sure your repair stays compliant and recorded.

Value & Prevention

Keep the light off longer

We’ll tailor driving guidance to Perth conditions (mix in an occasional longer run), confirm the correct low-ash oil, and set reminders aligned to GWM’s updated service schedule.

Right Oil

Using the wrong oil can block filters—we specify the correct grade.

Smart Scheduling

Plan services in line with the newer 15,000 km interval (model-dependent).

  • Diagnostics & Parked/Forced Regen (Start here)
  • On-Car Clean & Sensor Rectification
  • Off-Car Cleaning or Replacement (Ash-load/Substrate Damage)

DPF lights can mean many things: high soot %, faulty differential pressure sensor, EGT sensor issues, wiring faults—or simply incomplete regens from short-trip use.

We start with live data (soot %, pressure, temperatures, regen status), check oil spec, and inspect for leaks that skew readings. If the filter isn’t ash-loaded or damaged, we’ll run a parked/forced regeneration in a controlled environment to burn off soot safely.

During regen we monitor EGT rise and pressure drop to ensure the burn is occurring properly. After the cycle, we clear relevant codes (if conditions met) and perform a post-regen road test to confirm the filter’s differential pressure at cruise is within range.

You’ll see before/after graphs and a plain-English summary: what caused the load, what we did, and how to prevent repeat issues. If data suggests the DPF won’t sustain regen or a sensor is lying, we’ll show you and recommend Tab 2 or 3.

When soot load is stubborn but the substrate is intact, we may pair a targeted on-car clean with sensor checks.

We verify pressure/EGT sensor plausibility (cold/hot tests), repair wiring/connector issues, then use approved cleaning procedures to help lower soot levels so the ECU can complete a normal regen again.

This is not a shortcut around diagnostics—cleaning without fixing a failed thermostat, boost leak or oil contamination only leads to a comeback. Post-clean, we trigger or await a regen (conditions permitting) and record the outcome.

If readings remain high or ash load is suspected due to kilometres/age, we’ll price off-car cleaning or replacement. At every step we remain ADR-compliant; we do not bypass emissions hardware.

Over time, ash from oil additives accumulates and won’t burn off—especially on higher-km vehicles. If scans and pressure tests indicate ash-load or substrate damage, on-car methods won’t restore flow.

We remove the DPF for specialist cleaning or quote a replacement (genuine or equivalent quality) depending on condition, availability and downtime needs. We’ll also investigate “why” (e.g., extended short-trip use, incorrect oil, coolant/oil contamination) and address causals so the fix lasts.

After re-fitment we initialise any learned values, check for leaks, and verify with post-fit pressure/EGT and a road test.

You’ll receive a full report with part numbers/brands where applicable. We never perform DPF deletes; vehicles must meet ADR emissions to be road-legal in Australia.

Common Questions

GWM DPF FAQs

Fast, straight answers—no jargon.

It traps soot and must regenerate to burn it off. Short trips, wrong oil and some faults can prevent complete regens and increase soot load.
